David Flitner artist profile

David Flitner has been making his living as an oil painter for over 30 years. He obtained a degree at the University of Arizona and went on to continue his formal training at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.  He returned to Arizona to make it his home and has been happily painting beautiful landscapes across Arizona and The West ever since.

David was an Arizona backpacker for over 15 years, so as others stick to the hiking trails, he follows the land to find the exact spot which will inspire his next painting. When he finally sets up his easel, he paints the light and depth that surround him, the changing shadows falling over the desert vistas, the peaceful feeling of the space, and the dramatic mystery of the paths that open before him. Painting the land is his favorite thing to do and he knows he’s lucky to be able to do what he loves.

David’s paintings have been represented by fine art galleries, displayed in government and corporate buildings and purchased for private estates, including that of Burt Reynolds.  David was an honoree at the Best of Scottsdale Art Show and Gala in Scottsdale, Arizona for his landscapes (2005).  He was featured in the SkyWest Magazine (Delta and United Airlines, 2006) and the Scottsdale Magazine (2007). One of David’s paintings was selected for the Top 100 of the 2011 National “Paint The Parks” Art Competition and included in that exhibition’s national tour.

David was the front cover artist of the Tubac AZ Visitors Guide (2013-2014), with an article entitled, “David Flitner, Tubac’s Sky Painter.” In addition to painting, David enjoys teaching landscape painting classes at the Scottsdale Artists’ School in Scottsdale, Arizona.
